ST. GEORGE
Holy St. George, killer of the dragon, gave his name to the cathedral. According to legend he saved a king’s daughter, who was to be sacrificed to a dragon. The king and his people were so grateful that they received the Christian baptism but St. George shared out all the king’s presents among the poor.

St. George who came from Cappadocia, became a soldier, received great honours under Emperor Diocletian’s reign and was beheaded as a Christian in 303.
