THE CASTEL
Right behind the cathedral, the castle of Limburg, today called „Das Schloss“, is situated on a rock dropping steeply to the valley of the river Lahn. The oldest part still standing is the central housing tower from the beginning of the 13 th century with nicely vaulted rooms connected to each other by a very narrow staircase as thick as the wall. Imagina, who was Queen of Germany as Adolf of Nassovia’s spouse, grew up in this tower.

At the present time the castle is used by the town archives and other public facilities.

The “Förderverein Limburger Schloss e.V.“ commits itself to the maintenance of the castle, the old town and its scientific exploration. The association strives for the creation of celebration rooms for the citizens and a museum for the town history. The foundation “Schloss Limburg” has developed from this sponsoring association, which is being looked after by the German Foundation Protection of Historical Monuments.
