KATZENTURM
As Limburg was facing attacks of the surrounding lordships again and again, the town was fortified for its protection by a big curtain wall with towers at the beginning of the 13 th century. There were three gates in the wall: the Frankfurt, the Diez and the bridge gate as well as several smaller gates. Today the Grabenstraße (moat street) remains on the course of that curtain wall. The Schiede, an outer fortification with a wall and a moat, was designed in 1343.

Remains of the town wall are still standing in the east of the town with a tower ruin, called the “Huttig”. On the Lahn , downriver of the bridge , the remains of the Katzenturm are still standing. The heavily damaged round tower was repaired in the years 1985-86.

Today it is used by the Navy Fellowship and as a Maritime Museum.
